Folders
Overview
File Management: The process and act of creating an organized structure in which you store information for easy retrieval. A presentation on what folders and files are, difference between a folder and a file, and the various types of files is explained in the following video, see Fig 1:

All the data you create with your computer is referred to as files. Basically, these files are related group of data. They are usually in the form of videos, audios, texts, images.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
- differentiate a folder from a file
- create a folder on the desktop
- copy or send folders and files into a folder
Why a Folder
Too often, our desktop can become cluttered with icons, documents and files and there will the the need to organise our files based on how they are related to each other and the different tasks we are doing. For example, we may want to store all text files together in a different location for easy retrieval, or copy all video files into a pen drive, or store in a particular location all business transactions with a particular clients.
To keep files organized in our desired order we folders. A folder basically is a logical container in which we can store related files. There are easy ways to create a new folder on your desktop to keep your items organized for easy access.
How to Create a Folder
To create a folder on the desktop, do the following tasks:
1. Move the mouse pointer to an empty location on the desktop.
2. Right-click the mouse to show drop-down menu.
3. Move mouse to Folder command.
4. Left-click the mouse. Note somewhere on the desktop an icon appears with the mouse pointer blinking.
5. Type a name for the folder.
6. Press Enter key on the keyboard.
7. That’s it.
