Chi-Square Test

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Chi-square tests, also written as χ2, commonly come up in a wide variety of circumstances. The most common of which is for testing relationships between categorical (nominal or ordinal) variables, or assessing the independence of two variables in a contingency table and using it to make inferences and conclusions about real world phenomena.
Throughout this lesson, you’ll learn how to effectively use SPSS to enter data; how to use SPSS procedure in crosstab o run data, how to analyze data, and how to make inferences and conclusions based on APA reference style.
This lesson is intended for learners taking classes that use SPSS Statistics and those who plan on doing more involved research projects using SPSS.
It is expected that you are already familiar with the SPSS windows (the Data Editor, Output Viewer, and Syntax Editor).
CERTIFICATION
The Call eAcademy courses do not award free certificates. A verified certificate is awarded only to learners who have successfully passed in assessment of registered paid certificate tracks. Your performance in quizzes and assignments at the of a course qualifies you to apply for a verified certificate of participation in the course.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The main focus of this course is to walk you through basic quantitative analysis in Chi-square test free of any rigorous statistical concepts. So that, by end of the course, you should be able to:
- Run SPSS procedure on cross tabulation on given data
- Interpret summary statistic(s) and visualization for any one or two variables being analyzed.
- State propositions for a chi-square test for association for two categorical variables.
- Make a formal decision in a hypothesis test by comparing the p-value to the significance level.
- State, in an informal language, the conclusion to a hypothesis test in context.
- Interpret summary statistic(s) and visualization for any one or two variables being analyzed.

Overview of Chi-square Test
The Chi-square statistic, also written as χ2, is commonly used for testing relationships between nominal (categorical) variables. Thus, Chi-Square test is used to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the expected frequencies and the observed frequencies in one or more categories of a contingency table. This course is to allow you to conduct and interpret your quantitative analysis in Chi-Square without any previous skills in statistical concepts.
